At MAHA, we pursued a vision important to us and, in collaboration with the development teams of Pharmahemp and Genuine Technologies, created a toothpaste that combines the latest insights in biomaterials with the best that botany has to offer.
This is how MAHA Mineralcare was born – a fluoride-free formulation that simultaneously remineralizes hard tooth tissues, soothes the gums, alleviates sensitivity, and provides long-lasting, gentle citrus-herbal freshness. Each 75-milliliter tube is fully developed and produced in Slovenia, demonstrating that science and nature can intertwine to create perfect oral care.
“At the heart of the product is RSense™, an innovative bioactive glass and high-tech know-how developed by Dr. Nataša Drnovšek and Prof. Dr. Andraž Kocjan at the spin-off company Genuine Technologies under the Jožef Stefan Institute. RSense™ consists of amorphous spherical microparticles of calcium silicate. Upon contact with saliva and in the presence of phosphate ions, RSense™ microparticles rapidly release calcium and silicate ions, which accelerate the formation of new hydroxyapatite and seal micropores in the enamel as well as tubules in the dentin. Studies on bioactive glasses show that such accelerated remineralization can even be more effective than fluoride-only approaches, while significantly reducing dentin hypersensitivity by closing the dentinal tubules.

“When we were developing the RSense™ bioactive glass and testing the effectiveness of dentinal tubule sealing, an electric toothbrush was buzzing in the laboratory every day. In addition to brushing our own teeth daily, we brushed small pieces of test teeth twice a day for three minutes each. How did MAHA Mineralcare come to life?
The role of Dr. Sebastjan Perko, director of MAHA, was simple yet crucial – to bring the right people together at the right moment: ‘Already more than two years ago, we were thinking about a toothpaste that would combine bioactive glass and phytocannabinoids, but the project stalled – dental practice, research, and life each pulled me in a different direction.
Then a well-known Slovenian creator, whose work I admired, came to my practice; we met for the first time, unfortunately just before her untimely passing. At the end of the appointment, with a sparkling smile, she said to me: “I dreamed that you would make an extraordinary toothpaste – please, don’t delay!”
That night I didn’t sleep much. Respect for her vision and my own professional curiosity overcame all doubts about lacking time. The next morning at seven, I called Dr. Boštjan Jančar from Pharmahemp. The conversation lasted five minutes; we agreed – Let’s do it!’
Since RSense™ – the innovative bioactive glass – already existed, the next step was clear: to combine three fields that could create an excellent Slovenian-made toothpaste. In collaboration with Genuine Technologies and under the culinary guidance of Erik Božič, an exceptional vegan chef, we enriched the formula with aloe, chamomile, neem, green tea, and cloves, and designed a natural citrus-herbal flavor.
Within a few months, we brought together cutting-edge science, practical experience, and taste into a product that is not just a formulation of inorganic and organic ingredients, but the realization of a dream, a tribute to an extraordinary person, and proof that great stories begin with a simple ‘let’s go together.’
